Evidence of glacier-permafrost interactions associated with hydro-geomorphological processes and landforms at Snøhetta, Dovrefjell, Norway

چکیده

Glacier-permafrost interactions are investigated to understand glacial-hydrological influence along a partly glacierised valley on the NE flank of Snøhetta massif, Dovrefjell, southern Norway. Of particular interest is how processes controlled by hydrological connection between landforms. Field mapping identified an ice-marginal landsystem comprising polythermal glacier, proglacial lake, ice-cored moraine complex and river-lake with perennial frost mounds. A clear interaction glacial periglacial was observed in transitional landforms, most prominently which constitutes permafrost environment that directly reworked glaciofluvial processes. The role this controlling seasonal, partial drainage lake assessed using remote sensing-based observations surface size evolution seasonal subsidence. Results suggest two-fold threshold for drainage: Depending dynamics discharge active layer depth, may either act as barrier or pathway meltwater exiting glacier. This demonstrates importance landform glacial-periglacial landscape. To further assess subsurface hydrology linking domains, water stable oxygen isotope ratios across study area were studied map flow from glacier permafrost. include model catchment promote conceptual understanding thermal, hydraulic mechanical agent transient glacier-permafrost operating at heterogeneous timescales.

analysis of hydro-geomorphic landforms of lake maharlu basin, based on interactive relation of morphotectonic, morphoclimatic and hydro-morphic processes

lake maharlu basin is located in a synclinal valley of the folded zagros. the frame and rugged structure of the basin is made of three units of mountainous geomorphologic, smooth levels and tectonic hole and evolved during several geological periods under the effect of interactive relations of tectonic, climatology and hydro geomorphologic processes. in this study, the researchers applied histo...

Luminescence, Geomorphological Processes

Definition Geomorphology is the science that studies the origin and development of landforms and how those landforms combine to form landscapes. Landforms are shaped by geomorphological processes, many of which involve the weathering, erosion, transportation, and deposition of surface materials (rock, sediment) by gravity, ice, wind, or water. Both erosional and depositional landforms can be id...

Permafrost and Periglacial Processes

The microbial process of methane (CH4) production during the back-freezing of permafrost soils in autumn and the future fate of produced CH4 in the thawing phase of the following spring are not well understood. Long-term CH4 flux studies in the Lena Delta (Siberia) indicate that back-stored CH4 adds to the emission of newly-produced CH4 at the beginning of the vegetation period. Further field a...

Permafrost and Periglacial Processes

Sphagnum (spp.) is widely distributed in permafrost regions around the arctic and subarctic. The moisture content of the moss layer affects the thermal insulative capacity and preservation of permafrost. It also controls the growth and collapse history of palsas and other peat mounds, and is relevant, in general terms, to permafrost thaw (therrnokarst). In this study, we test and calibrate seve...
